Monday, November 16th, 2020

Former Badger Region President Julie Voeck has been designated as a member of the NORCECA Refereeing Commission for the 2020-2024 quad. NORCECA is the North, Central America and Caribbean Volleyball Confederation, an organization responsible for all volleyball activities that take place in its zone, and its parent organization is the FIVB, the international governing body for the sport of volleyball around the world. USA Volleyball is a member of NORCECA, and Badger Region and all of its members are part of USA Volleyball. In other words, this appointment is a big deal.

“What an exciting opportunity! I am very honored to have been selected for this position,” Voeck said. “I am looking forward to being part of the team that develops training materials and tools for our international referees would like to see our referees be prepared for any opportunity.”

Voeck received the notification from NORCECA President Cristobal Marte Hoffiz on Oct. 31 after USA Volleyball CEO Jamie Davis nominated her for the position.

According to Pati Rolf, a former Badger Region member and head of Official’s Development at USA Volleyball, Voeck is the only other woman on the commission besides herself. Rolf serves as Secretary of the Refereeing Commission under President Guy Bradbury (Canada).

“Julie is a dear friend and a person of character who we need in society today,” Rolf said. “Her crossover from so many organizations – USAV, Badger Region, high school, PAVO – will help her be able to build relationships across so many networks.”

Rolf went on to compliment Voeck’s demeanor in the board room and on the court as an official that will make her successful in this role.

“NORCECA is super lucky to have her,” Rolf said. “She will be consistent, a good listener and get others to talk – kind of like being ‘Wisconsin or Minnesota Nice.’ She will bring NORCECA together.”

Rolf said that Voeck’s responsibilities on the commission will be to mentor, recruit and retain international officials in the NORCECA region.

The North, Central America and Caribbean Volleyball Confederation (NORCECA) is an incorporated, non-profit organization responsible for all volleyball activities that take place in its zone.  NORCECA is the continental confederation that represents its 35 member countries at the International Volleyball Federation (FIVB) level.

The Confederation is responsible for, among other things, the staging of Olympic and World Championship zone qualification tournaments, as well as continental championships for both men and women in Indoor and Beach Volleyball.

Voeck, an active Badger Region official, remains on the Badger Region Board of Directors as past president and as the officials rating and advancement chair.
