Training materials now available for junior referees, scorers and line judges

USA Volleyball’s resources to assist athletes, coaches, club director, officials and parents with the responsibilities of officiating junior tournaments are now available for the 2020-21 season.
These online modules include:
- Junior Line judge module
- Junior Libero tracking module
- Junior Scorekeeping module
- Scorekeeping a deciding set module (coming soon)
- Junior Second referee module
These modules can be viewed via a member’s USAV Academy. To access an individual’s Academy, he or she should log into Sports Engine. Click the initials/profile image in the upper right hand corner. Click on “household.” Find the Badger Region tile and click “more details.” That is when the USAV Academy button will appear in the upper right corner. Once in the USAV Academy, an individual from the Badger Region can click “Content Library” and the four modules will appear at the top of the library. Once clicking on the module, the individual will be automatically enrolled and can begin the training.
In lieu online training, some clubs choose to have a professional certified referee conduct a Scoring and Officiating Clinic at a club meeting. Or they can choose to run these clinics themselves without a certified referee. The subject matter of this in-person clinic is essentially the same as what is contained in the above online modules, but the in-person clinic allows the participants to interact and ask questions. Clubs who choose the in-person option may also encourage parents to attend so they have a better understanding of what it takes to work a match.
In-person clinics with a Badger Region-certified official were canceled due to COVID-19 for the 2020-21 season.
Online training is not required by the Badger Region. Parents, coaches and athletes should work with their club director and local administration to determine what is required by the club and what form of training will be used to meet Region standards.
