Despite coming from a volleyball family, TJ Abshire was late to take up the sport. When he finally embraced the game at 18, it was through adult competitions including leagues, tournaments, and open gyms. TJ prides himself on being a self-made player who has competed at some of the highest level adult events in the state.

Abshire is the all time leader in hitting percentage for the UW-Whitewater Men’s Club team (1.000; 3 kills on 3 attempts) and was the runner up in the Open division at Marquette Triple’s Fest in 2009; however you probably don’t know him for that. You might know him for his work with adult leagues at Center Court Sports Complex, where he has served in many capacities since 2001. You also might know him from his work coaching at various clubs, high schools, and camps throughout the past 15 years. If you don’t know him from any of that, you’re encouraged to get to know him now. TJ is approachable and friendly, and always has time to talk — especially if you have ideas on how to promote growth in the sport.

When healthy, TJ has been active in Badger Region’s adult scene. He has won several Badger Region Championships, and has competed at USAV nationals seven times. Primarily a libero at this point, he enjoy’s Men’s 6’s for its intense competition and great social scene. He credits USAV participation for introducing him to hundreds of great people throughout the region.

Currently, TJ coaches the Boy’s Varsity at Arrowhead High School as well as the Boy’s 13 Navy team for Revolution Volleyball Academy. He hopes to use his position as Adult Chair of the Advisory Committee to encourage adult participation at all levels of play, while also utilizing his ties at the youth level to develop a new generation of adults eager to continue volleyball as a lifelong activity.
