Jim arts got involved with USA Volleyball his hist two daughters started playing club volleyball in 2008. His daughters continued their playing careers in high school and one played NCAA volleyball in college.
Arts says he started officiating as a way to “stay in the game,” knowing that his daughters’ club careers were winding down. He was immediately hooked to the sport and loved the competitive drive of the players. He started officiating with the WIAA in 2011 and NCAA in 2013. He says the mentoring of many, many other officials has helped him improve his skills in officiating.

- 2014: Received USAV Regional Rating
- 2015: Started doing score clinics in the Badger Region
- 2015: Started mentoring other officials within the Badger Region
- 2016: Received USAV Junior National Rating
- 2018: Received USAV National Rating
- 2019: Appointed Badger Region Referee Chair
