Thompson expanded his ever-growing volleyball resume when he began Sept. 21, 2014, as the Program Specialist with the Badger Region Volleyball Association. Then, upon longtime Operations Manager Colleen Houk’s departure, Thompson was promoted to that position on Dec. 1, 2015.

The Elk Grove Village, Ill., native spent eight years at West Allis Lightning as a boys coach for teams of various age levels, all of which qualified for the Open Division of Boys Junior Nationals. In 2007, his team finished fifth in 15 Open, in 2013, his team finished third in 15 Open and in 2014, his team finished ninth in 16 Open. Thompson, a board member at Milwaukee Sting, helped start the boys volleyball program in 2014. He was also the 17s head coach for a boys team that finished 5th at USAV Championships in 2015. He will coach the same group of athletes as 18-year-olds during the 2016 campaign.

Thompson’s career includes a three-year stint as the men’s volleyball assistant coach for Carthage College from 2014-2016, during which time the team appeared in the 2014 Final Four and 2016 Elite Eight. (He is an alumni who played three years at Carthage for teams that won the 2004 NIRSA Division II title, was the 2005 NCAA Division III runner-up and the 2007 NCAA Division III runner-up.) He also serves as a camp clinician for Carthage College and has helped with the national High Performance program. During the 2015 NCAA Women’s Division I Volleyball Season, he was a volunteer assistant coach at Marquette University, who qualified for the NCAA Tournament for the fifth year in a row under head coach Ryan Theis.

A resident of Waukesha, Wis., Thompson also served four years at Arrowhead High School as a JV and as a freshman coach. Until 2014, he was a Team Sales Representative at Burghardt Sporting Goods.

Outside of volleyball, Ryan enjoys sports of all kinds, just about every genre of music, and picking up a good book.
