Sharkey has served the Badger Region in many capacities starting with being a player for the Marquette University men’s club volleyball team from 1997-2002. After graduating with a degree in journalism, he laid some more permanent roots in Kenosha.

There he assisted with the Carthage College men’s volleyball team during its first four years as an NCAA Division III organization. In the years that followed, Sharkey coached at Kenosha Tremper High School during which time he helped co-found the Southport Volleyball Club, a boys-only club based in Kenosha. At Southport, the Illinois native has served as the director and has coached the boys 14s, 16s and 18s. In 2012, the new Indian Trail High School & Academy opened and he was chosen the first head coach of the program.

Over the past decade, Sharkey has also been a coach with the Badger Region High Performance program, a clinician with the Carthage men’s volleyball camp, director of the Kenosha YMCA middle school program and has sat on the All-State Committee for the Wisconsin High School Boys Volleyball Championships.

As a player, Sharkey has been named an All-Tournament team member while playing at the USA Adult Open Championships in 2008. He was also an All-Conference and All-Midwest honoree while at Marquette and was named NIRSA All-American in 2002. He was inducted into the Wisconsin Volleyball Conference Hall of Fame in 2006.

In a prior life, Sharkey served as the Entertainment/Design/Calendar Editor for the Kenosha News. That life ended on Sept. 14, 2014, when he took the position of Program Director with the Badger Region. He has been married to his wife, Vicki, since 2011. Their son, Dominic, is a future red-headed volleyball player.
