Teague Prichard approved as Ref Liaision by Badger Region Board of Directors

Teague Prichard has a long history and passion for the game of volleyball.
Prichard was approved Monday (Feb. 22) as the new Badger Region Officials Liaison to USA Volleyball.
The Madison native played both high school and USAV club volleyball and a youth. He went on to coach at the high school level and club level. And since 2010, he has been an officials with USAV, NFHS, and NCAA.
“I am very fortunate to be in the Badger Region, as the investment in recruiting and growing officials, at all levels, is top notch, from some of the best leaders, mentors, training, and role models,” Prichard said.
Prichard obtained his USAV Junior National officiating certification in 2016.
In 2010, Prichard recalls his first ref observer telling him, “ ‘I can tell you know the game, as you called the back-row attack, but you don’t know the signals at all.’ ‘Very True,'” I said.
“I’m very pleased that Teague has accepted the position of ‘Badger Region Officials Liaison to USAV’ on the Badger Region Board of Directors,” said Board President Jim Momsen. “Teague will also be taking on the additional responsibilities of Coordinating Officials Advancement from Julie Voeck. Teague brings great enthusiasm, positivity, knowledge, and ideas to the Badger Region. I look forward to working with him as he grows into the Officials Liaison position and works with the Badger Region Staff and Board to grow officials, and the game of volleyball, in Badger Region.”
Prichard was known as a setter that loved to hit. He played high school ball at Madison Memorial as a setter, during the days when the State Championship was one day and all schools attended, there was no such thing as a libero, you couldn’t overhand serve receive and the infamous sideout days of long matches.
He Played for Madison-based Wisconsin Select USAV boys club team and played at the Boys Junior National Championships in 1989. He says lifelong friendships were made in club volleyball and now officiating many of my former teammates as coaches and even as parents of players on the court.
Post juniors club ball, played club volleyball at UW Madison, loved the beach game in the summer, and as a lifelong sport, continued in many adult tournaments, in any form and level.
Following college, Prichard coached at Middleton High school and coached 17’s for the original WI Power Volleyball Club out of UW Madison’s field house.
He Took a break from the game for several years with limited time, but on the encouragement of my coaching friends “go be an official and ref when you want to, the game needs good officials.”
Teague says his motto is “To grow the game through great officiating” as we are often “the face of the game and key in the positive experience on the court.”
