Badger Region announces 2020 dates for state’s elite High Performance tryouts
Wednesday, November 27th, 2019
The Badger Region is looking for a repeat performance from its High Performance teams it fielded this past season.
Two of the Region’s HP four teams earned medals at the prestigious High Performance Championships. Another finished just out of the medals in fourth place.
That journey, which is part of USA Volleyball’s “Path to the Podium” initiative, is the culmination of a series of tryouts, camps and training geared to preparing athletes for international, elite competition.
And it all begins with the in-Region tryouts that will take place in March in conjunction with the Badger Region Championships at the Wisconsin Center, 400 W. Wisconsin Ave., in downtown Milwaukee.
Dates and ages
Dates are as follows:
* March 13: Girls International Youth, Boys National Youth and Boys Select
* March 20: Girls National Select
Dates were chosen for the tryouts listed based on feedback from last year and an attempt to not conflict with as many spring breaks as possible or any large USAV Qualifiers or events.
The athletes who are eligible for the teams offered by the Badger Region are as follows:
* Boys National Select: Boys born in 2003 and 2004
* Boys National Youth: Boys born in 2005 and 2006
* Girls International Select: Girls born in 2004 and 2005
* Girls National Youth: Girls born in 2006 and 2007
Can’t make tryouts?
There are again no make-up tryouts this year. All athletes must attend the dated listed above. If an athlete has a conflict and has other commitments on the date listed above for his or her age, special considerations will be made on a case-by-case basis. For starters, anyone who would like to be considered for a spot in the HP program but cannot attend the tryout must:
1. Send a copy of their junior club team’s full season tournament schedule and indicate the conflict. Email this to brian@badgerarchive4.0ed61ed.netsolhost.com.
2. Obtain a brief letter of recommendation from your coach or club director and send it to brian@badgerarchive4.0ed61ed.netsolhost.com saying he or she supports this athlete being a part of the HP program.
3. Send a link to video highlights or a recruiting video that would give coaches a good view of what level the athlete is at currently. This can be emailed to brian@badgerarchive4.0ed61ed.netsolhost.com.
4. Complete the above steps by the Wednesday before the date of the tryout you are supposed to go to.
